This year’s FAMILIAS Friends’ Event is a must for anyone interested in supporting families during the early  years, engaging with young families in a toddler group setting, or with a passion for encouraging, enriching and supporting family life. Guest speaker Dr Samantha Callan is a researcher and policy expert in early years and early intervention and Chairman in Residence at the Centre for Social Justice. Also speaking will be Joanna Gordon teacher and Founder Director of the inspirational church-based parent and toddler organisation Daniel’s Den; and Katja Babei, former M&FL Adviser for  Portsmouth Diocese, who helped to set up a toddler group in her local Catholic parish, now in its ninth successful year.

Over 3.7 million under-fives live in Britain today and toddler groups provide communities with essential open access play sessions for pre-school children, their parents and carers.  They are also a fantastic but often neglected mission opportunity for parish communities. A toddler group’s warm, environment offers parents a chance to fulfil their mission to create a secure and loving space in which their children can grow and thrive.

Community based toddler groups are one of a number of proven services which help parents to provide their children with the essential social and emotional security they will need for the rest of their lives.
