Since 2010 the Project Office has provided internship opportunities for students from the University of Notre Dame’s London Undergraduate Program (LUP). Students combine their studies with work on a range of projects in support of the bishops’ programmes of pastoral care for marriage and family life. This Spring the Project Office has welcomed Sarah Jesse, a Psychology and Theology major from Ohio, and John McMackin a History and Theology major from Mississippi, to the team.
For the past four months John and Sarah have been assisting with our preparations for the 2015 Family Synod by ensuring that online responses to The Call, the Journey and The Mission get to the appropriate diocese. They have also been summarising some of the responses using surveymonkey’s text analysis tools.
Their commitment, dedication and enthusiasm have been invaluable to us, but they have learned a lot in the process. As Sarah told us, “This experience has shown me the many ways the Church is being called by Her people to come into their lives and help, teach, and inspire faith. In the future, I hope to engage in work to enhance parish life and I hope that I may use the knowledge gained through my internship with the CBCEW in order to serve the parish community in a deeper, more personal, and more meaningful way.”
